Some changes are common
People may take longer to recall a name, learn new information more slowly, or rely more on notes and reminders. These experiences are not automatically dementia.
Function matters
Repeatedly getting lost, missing essential bills, mismanaging medicines, or losing the ability to complete familiar tasks is different from occasionally forgetting a word. The pattern and impact matter more than a single lapse.
Do not self-treat an unexplained change
A product marketed for memory may be tempting, but a clinician can look for sleep, medication, mood, hearing, nutritional, or neurological factors. Early evaluation can be more useful than guessing.
